Reckless Love

When was the last time you took a moment and thought about the people in your life that love you? How does their love affect your everyday life? What does it mean to you?

Along the same lines, when was the last time you thought about how much God loves you? If you think about your family and friends’ love for you, imagine that love on an infinite, intimate, and eternal scale. God’s love is 100% unconditional. No strings attached and never-ending. And His heart is only full of love for YOU. In every moment He is whispering love over you and chasing after your precious heart.

My favorite illustration of God’s love is in the book of Matthew. It reads, “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish”. How beautiful is that? He stops at nothing to find us. He is relentless in His search, leaving the ninety-nine to find just one lost soul. I can’t fathom a love purer than that.

A few weeks ago was the first time I heard the song, “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury. This song describes the never-ending, relentless love God has for each of us. It talks about how He leaves the ninety-nine in pursuit of one. That “one” is you. That “one” is me. It’s each of us when we lose our way, when we get caught up in life, and even when we haven’t sought Him out. He seeks us out. He chases us down and fights until we are found by Him. “Reckless Love” speaks to this idea and has altered how I view God’s love. Being a human, I always want to be able to grasp infinite ideas. But the reality is, we can’t. Just like how we can’t comprehend eternity, we cannot ever fully understand just how big Christ’s love is for us. Although this is true, He provides ways in which we can feel His love even with our limited human thinking.

I encourage you to listen to “Reckless Love” and really focus on the words. The words are full of promises and truth that we all need to hear. I’ll include some of the lyrics here:

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

This week, be reminded of God’s love for you. Nothing you do can take that love away. No matter how far you run, His measureless love will always remain. Remember that promise going throughout your week, and take the time to experience that love. Dig into The Word. Pray to Him throughout your day. And spend time with fellow believers. Once you experience just a taste of His love, you won’t want to turn back.
