Cold weather got you down? I can say it has taken a toll on me. I love warm weather much more than the frigid months we’re in and find that I’m an overall happier and healthier person in Spring and Summer. I breathe fresh air more. I exercise more. I eat cleaner. I spend time with friends more. There are just so many upsides to warm weather.
I’ve been wrestling with my hatred of being indoors for the past few months and have really dived into problem-solving. Because, regardless of how much I despise winter, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon – and I have to live with that!
QUESTION: How can we stay positive in the winter months?
I think that deep down, we all know the answers. Just like other answers we know we just don’t like following through with them. And the real truth lies in actually making a point to embrace the solutions.
ANSWER: We stay positive in wintry months by making the most of the season. We cherish the time we get to spend in extra-close (sometimes too close) proximity to our friends and family. We capitalize on the blessings instead of the downsides. And we remain steadfast in reaching our goals.
For me, my goals are to exercise and eat as healthy as I can. I tend to drop the ball when the weather calls for sweaters, and I can’t convince myself to get out of bed to work out. But the challenge to myself and you is to appreciate this frigid season, fight our urge to wait out the cold, and rather continuing on in accomplishing the goals we have set! It’s not the easiest thing to do, but it’s the most beneficial.
This answer is still the same when we’re talking about seasons in life. Let’s be real, no one likes going through difficult circumstances, and it’s similar to how we feel in the winter; we just want to hide in the comfort of our home and wait out the cold. But we have to learn to appreciate the tough moments, remain focused on our initial goals, and remember the blessings in our lives. So whether you’re going through the love-hate relationship with winter or a tough season in life, these words still apply. There is a time and a meaning for every season (Ecclesiastes 3:1-22), and we are promised a reward by staying faithful in life’s seasons (Galatians 6:9).
God is going to create something beautiful from the season we’re in (Ecclesiastes 3:11). We just have to see Him and His goodness through and accomplish the goals he’s set out for us. There will always be incredible things about every season we’re in – we just have to seek these things out.
