Five Quotes from Billy Graham to Apply to Your Life

  1. “During all my years as an evangelist, my message has always been the Gospel of Christ. It is not a Western religion, nor is it a message of one culture or political system . . . it is a message of life and hope for all the world.” Today, more than ever, we need to remember that the Gospel of Christ has no boundaries. Our world is filled with hatred, violence, and sorrow. There are people hurting. There are so many things causing Divisions, but the hope that Christ brings can be unifying. Colossians 3:14 says, “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. We must put on love and share it with others. We must understand that the same message Billy Graham lived out is the message that will continue to bring about change if we share.
  2. “I am not going to Heaven because I have preached to great crowds or read the Bible many times. I’m going to Heaven just like the thief on the cross who said in that last moment: ‘Lord, remember me.’” None of us is worthy of going to meet our Maker. We all have salvation only through Jesus Christ. When you are struggling to love someone, remember that Christ gives you grace upon grace and allow that to help you extend grace to others. Do not forget to humble yourself and remember your place, a human being in need of mercy and grace from the Savior.
  3. “Our society strives to avoid any possibility of offending anyone—except God.” I am as guilty as anyone of being a people pleaser. It is good to love others and to serve them well; that’s what God has called us to do, but can we really do that when we don’t consider if what we are doing is pleasing to God? Even great things can be offensive to God when they take our eyes off of Him and prevent us from doing what He wants us to do. Don’t forget to take time to pray and read your Bible. You need to please God before you please anyone else.
  4. “Christ not only died for all: He died for each.” God cares about our world and our nation, but He also cares about you as an individual. Don’t forget that God wants you to come to Him. He wants to pour His love out upon you and He wants to help you with whatever you are going through right now. Run to Him and remember that He made the greatest sacrifice to pay the price for your ransom.
  5. “Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.” Christianity Today posted an article that credits this quote to D. L. Moody. Even though Billy Graham may not have been the first person to say these words, they reflected his belief that Heaven will be greater than this earth ever will. In the midst of everything going on in my life, I find hope in the fact that one day I will be in the presence of God. These words are a great reminder that one day we will have peace and will get to spend eternity with our Creator.
